RIFLE SHOOTING
MISS FERGUSON WINS FINAL SHOOT FOR WHITLEY TROPHY. INCREASING MEMBERSHIP. The lady members of the Rotorua Miniature Rifle Club held the final shoot for the Whitley trophy on Tuesday night at the drill hall. The conditions were the best two shoots out of three, with handicap. Six conipetitors tied with the possible of 70 for two shoots. In the shoot-off, a good standard was maintained. The following were the scores in the shoot-off: — Miss M. Black, 61; Miss V. Ferguson, 61; Miss M. Bates, 59; Miss W. Worrall, 56; Miss Allen, 55; Mrs. McNair, 51. These results entailed another shoot-off between Miss Black and Miss Ferguson to decide the winner. Miss Ferguson again registered 61 and "won the trophy. The following scored 50 or over: — Miss P. Adolph, 62; Miss V. Ferguson, 61; Mrs. McNair, 60; Miss M. Yuill, 60; Miss W. Ellison, 59; Miss V. Butler, 56; Miss M. Bates, 54; Miss Allen, 51. Miss Ferguson put up a good performance, scoring 61 on three occasions the same night. Several lady spectators were present and after watehing the shooting decided to join the club. On Tuesday night next the ladies will compete for four trophies: (1) illghi.-st score off the rifle; (2) highest s.ore off the rifle, with handicap; (3) second highest score off the rifle with handicap; (4) best average of series. At the present rate of progress it is expected that the club's membership will shortly reach 100, when it will rank numerically as one of the strongest clubs in New Zealand.
