FULL NORMAL SERVICE TO BE RESUMED ON FRIDAY SOME EMPLOYEES LOSE JOBS

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The tramway strike is now definitely over and the Tramways Board hopes to be able to resume norxnal services on Friday. At a meeting to-liight, the Tramway Employees Union decided definitely to accept the decision of thie chairman of the tribunal, Mr. A. T. Donnelly, with the amplification and explanation which he gave this morning in answier to the union's objections that his decision was too vague in its terms. The board has agreed to employ permanently not more than 60 volunteers. It has promised to proceed at once with the wneding out process neeessary to select those m°~ suitahle for employmsnt as perma'nent members of the staff. It can employ forthwith 90 members of the union to fill vaeancies on the staff which have never been taken hy volunteers, and in the course of a few days will reduce the members of volunteer workers to make possible the re-employment of members of the union. Forty members of the union did not strike. These will he retained. Of the remainder, 130 will be re-employed and 20 more will he given temporary employm'ent in accordance with the rationing scheme recommended by Mr Donnelly. In all 52 members of the union will lose their jobs.
