Rec. May. 16, 9.5 p.m. LONDON, Monday. The Daily Telegraph says that £he election verdict in Victoria is the best augury for the Queensland and New South Wales elections. It can hardly be doubted that the Victorian lead will be followed. There could be no stronger testimony of the soundness of the situation in Australia than the resotfnding verdict given in the Commonwealth and Victoria in favour of the programme of retrenchment of taxation which all classes are feeling the most serious hardship.
