ORPHANS' CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. The sixth annual report of the Rotorua Orphjans' Club, to be presented by the president, Mr. J. M. Roberts, at the annual meeting on Thursday night, states: — "The full number of meetings were held, despite the financial depression through which the country is passing, with the result that the funds are not so healthy as last year, but living up to the club's motto, "Banish Care, and Sadness," the amount of £24 10s 7d was expended in excess of revenue. "The session started on June 11th with 110 members on the register. During the session 21 resigned and 15 were written off; 20 new -members joined, which leaves a balance of 94. The average attendaiiee was 70. "Nine members comprised the orchestra on opening night, and the session finished with 14 members under the baton of Hon. Conductor Bro. Healey. Excellent work was done and their efforts were much appreciated by visitors and members. The services of Bro. Nelson as secretary and a leading member of the orchestra will be missed in the coming session, owing to his removal on promotion as Chief Postmaster at Blenheim. "Fraternal visits were paid to Cambridge and Opotiki, and representatives from Cambridge reciprocated. We also had the pleasure of being entertained by the commercial travellers' concert party during their stay in Rotorua on one of their "humanity" visits. About 160 members and lady friends assembled in the Majestie Ballroom on October 22nd, and were entertained in a true Orphan spirit. A very good programme was supplied by Miss Dulcie Evans and the Hamilton Harmonic Four from Hamilton Orphans, and Bro. E. J. Thomas, of Auckland, supported by local talent. After the concert a few dances were enjoyed by old and young. "The thanks of the club are due to Messrs. Hampson and Davys for use of room for committee meetings; to Bro. C. Griffiths for use of tables and chairs during the session; to Bro. F. Goodson for storage of club's property; and to the conductor and members of the orchestra for their very efficient services, which made the session so enjoyable."
