•By Telegranh — Copyrlght).
Rec. May 15, 5.0 p.m. OTTAWA, Saturday. The New Zealand Trade Treaty Bill was subjected to a general attack in the Senate to-day, several Opposition members criticising it for instability, lack of preference for Canadian products, and failure to protect the wool-growers. It was not amended and was adopted and given the Royal Assent. The Government leader, Senator Meighan, sponsoring the Bill, said he believed its adoption by Parliament would have a beneficial influence on the atmosphere of the Economic Conference. A proclamation bringing the treaty into effect will be promulgated at a date suitable to New Zealand.
