Jackson) at Thursday evening's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Couneil when the couneil was discussing expenditure in relief works for the eotfiing year. The Rotorua High School Board, after discussing the question of an agficultural scheme for the school with the new headmaster, Mr. W. G. Harwood, has decided to ravive the negotiations instituted some time ago to take over six acres of the medical officer's reserve for use as an experimental area. The board accordingly wrote to Thursday evening's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Couneil, stating that it now desired to accept the council's offer of the reserve. It was pointed out, however, that the offer of the reserve had been made by the couneil in its capacity as a Domain I Board and that the matter could not be dealt with that evening. Highways Maintenance. The assistant engineer, Publie Works Department, Rotorua (Mr. F. l. Park) advised the Rotorua Borough Couneil on Thursday evening that the Department was prepared to maintai^ that length of the Whakatane ani Napier main highways falling withr.i the borough area at a total cost of £413 per annum — £320 for the Whakatane road and £193 for the Napier route. It was pointad out that if the department took over the whole of j this work it would remove^a certain amount of labour which could he carried out by couneil workmen. Cr. E. T. Johnson, chairman of the works committee, said that it was rather the intention of his committee only to hire the department's grader and not to allow the whole of the work to be taken ^ vas decided to leave the matter in the hands of the works committee.

Power Supply The Electrical branch of the Tourist Department advises that the electrical supply for the whole of the Rotorua district will be cut off between the hours of 1.30 and 4 p.m. on Sunday for the purpose of effecting alterations at the Rotorua and Ngongotaha sub-stations. Help for Relief Fund. To assist the Rotorua Woniens Club's relief fund, the Tauranga players will produce the farce "Tilly of Bloomsbury" at the Majestic Theatre on Friday next. Advance reports indicate that the play will be in the hands of an exceptionally capable east whose members take full advantage of the many opportunities for laughter-making provided by the author. Winter Show. Preparations are well in hand for the forthcoming winter show fixture of the Rotorua A. and P. Association, to be held on June 22 and 23. Entries for the field crop competitions close on May 21 and prize money totalling £21 is offered in this section. Scliedules are now ready and may he obtained on application to the seeretary or Messrs Pratt and Co Ltd, Arawa Street. The offiee will open to receive entries for all sections on June 6 and special offiee accomodation in the R.M. building, Tutanekai Street, has been obtained for this purpose. This year's show will have particular interest for poultry breeders owing to the fact that the North Island championship for the Light Sussex fancy and utility classes will be condueted in connection with the poultry section. An orchestra has been engaged to supply music during the evening show sessions and the Association will conduct a dance and card tournament on the closing evening of the fixture.
