THE WEATHER
The Government meteorologist issued the followlng weather report and forecast last night: — Generat Situation: A cyclone stiil remains centred near Cape Maria van Diemen; while pressure is high over south -eastern Austraiia arid about Chafham Islands. Forecast: Winds, north-easteriy at first in the Auckland province, otherwise south-easterlies prevailing; stro'ng generally north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura and reaching gale f;orce in places; elsewhere mainly moderate. Weather: Mainly fair in Westland and South Canterbury, elsewhere unsettled, with further rain "and snow " likely on the ranges and fog o'n the East Coast. . Following are the barometer, maxfmum a'nd minimum thermometer, and rainfalFTeadings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department, for 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday: — " Barometer .... 29.719 iris. ThermorffSter (max.) 61.0deg. Thermometer (min, on grass) 50.0deg. Rainfall ....- 0.73ins.
