L. Paterson, S.M., in the" Rotorua Magistrate's Cd'llfe yesterday morning. "It is rather a difficult problem to lcnow what to do with the man," said S'enior-Sergt. Carroll, after outli l.ng the charges. "He has only just corae out of gaol and he has a record. He is a good tradesman but seems to bo a weak character. There appears to be something lacking in the fellow's make-up."

Glanville was charged with obtain*ing from Percy John Sherriff a quantity of wallpaper valued at 8s 9d, by falsely representing that he had authority to obtain the goods on behalf of William Yuill. He was further charged with using a similar false pretence in order to obtain a quantity of painting and paperhanging materials from John Francis Lee, and with the theft of an overcoat valued at £4, the property of Edward Irving Lowe. Glanville admitted three charges. bult pleaded not guilty to obtaining credit from Lee. The Senior-Sergt. stated that tlr0 accused had approached Mr. Sherriff and without authority had obtained a quantity of wallpaper, which he booked to Mr. Yuill. So far as the idle and disorderly charge was concerned. Glnnville had been staying with Mr. Yuill and had gone away without iiotice, owing a fair sM for board. ilv. had then gone to anoth'er boardinghouse but when the police seai*ched for him he had disappeared. However, he had not returned to the boardinghouse, and had been sleeping out nbout the town until he was arrested. So far as the charge of obtaining credit from Mr. Lee was concerned, Glanville had obtained the materials on the pretence that he had authority from Mr. Yuill. Evidenc? in support of this last •rbarge was given by John Francis • . ■ and William Yuill. The accused was convicted and dis--•harged on the charges of being idle and disorderly and obtaining credit by fraud from Percy John Sherriff. On the charge of theft, he was convicted and sentenced to six months' hnprisonment, to be followed by a term of not more than one year's reformative detention. On the charge of obtaining credit by fraud from Lee, he was sentenced to a similar term of reformative detention, to be served concurrently.
