LIGHTNING STRIKES WATER MAIN AT NEW PLYMOUTH THUNDERBOLT IN GARDEN

NEW PLYMOUTH, Wednesday. ' A severe thunderstorm, accompanied by extraordinarily heavy rain and hail passed over New Plymouth during the early hours of this morning. The water main at Mangorei was struck by lightning, a great hole being torn in the pipe, seriously affecting the water supply. A thunderbolt struck a garden at Mangorei within a few feet of the house. Heavy seas were running on the coast, and the liners Rotorua and Raranga, and coastal and small eraft ■rode but the storm in the hafbour. .
