The new President was Iqter invested with the seals of office by M. Tardieu, as President of the Executive. The Tardieu CabiUet will remain in pffice until June 1, when M. Feeling ran high following the election, Senators Borret and Louis Bein coming to blows; also Deputies Grolette and Bourgrave, the latter twice soundly smacking his rival's face. M. Lebrun, as President of the National Assembly, ascended thp carpeted Presidential box and soiemnly announced the purpose of the Assembly. The members stood for two minutes' silence as a tribute to the late President Doumer. The voting occupied two hours. M. Faure (Socialist) reeeived 114 votes and M. Painleve, despite his withdrawal, 12; M. Cachin (Communist) polled 8'. The other votes were variously distributed.
