The Government meteorologiet !ssued the following weather report and forecast last night: — General Situation: Although pressure hasfrisen considerably over New Zealand, a cyclone remains centred West of Cape Maria v^n Dieman; an anticyclo'ne extends from Southern Australia to New Zealand. Forecast: Winds, variable and at .times squally; northerlies prevailing ovsr the North Island and southerlies over the South lgland;'.southerly or- south -westerly likely gradually to becorfTe^, general, freshening in places to gale force. Weather: Still unsettled with rain heavy falls in some places; improving gradually in the western and southern districts; temperatures becoming cooler. Following are the barometer, maximum a'nd minimum thermometer, and rainfall readings recorded at the Government Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department, for the 24 hours ended at 9.30 a.m; yesterday: — Barometer .... 29.715ins. Thermometer (max.) 59.2deg. Thermometer (min. on grass) 40.0deg. Rainfall 0.75ins.
