— By Telegraph — Copyrlght).
Rec. May 9, 9.30 p.m. PARIS, Monday. France polled the second ballot yesterday witb a heavy heart, the asassination of M. Doumer, oppressing the electors. There were no demonstrations or disturbances. The swing to the Left has been maintained. Of the first results, which cover 128 of the 356 seats which were undecided at the first ballot, the Opposition captured 74 and the Government lost 26. The defeat of M. Tardieu's Cahinet is now certain. The expected anti-Tardieu majority of 86 memhers, consequent on the victory for the Left parties, threatens to change the. aspect of the presidential election, as M. Lebrun represents the Right. M. Painleve is a candidate for the Left and may now he persuaded to make a determined effort to secure election, in which case he would have a fair chance of success.
