admissions by defendant in garden assault case EIGHT MEN IMPRISONED

SYDNEY, Monday. The eight men charged with aslulting Mr. Garden and his two sons 'ere sentenced to three months' im-i-'isonment without option of a fine. The Magistrate, Mr. Cohen, des--ibed the assault as a cowardly atick. All pleaded guilty. One of the. def endants made a [atement to the effeet that an unjgned note had been pushed under is door ordering him to undertake seeret mission in company with comlete strangers. Part of his duty 'as to quieten the dog. ! The defendant added that he was i member of the Fascist Legion of jie New Guard, containing 52 memers who were known to one another nly by numbers. All were issued [ith black hoods and gowns. ' During the luncheon adjournment *© eight defendants were walking in | busy street in the vicinity of the jourt when they were attacked by I Jbe.fty 'man, who fought fiercly, ti'iking some of the defendants who etaliated. [ A huge crowd gathered and the plice rushed to the spot and charged dth batons. They finally arrested he aggressor who was fined £2 for ptous behaviour.
