PRIZE-MONEY FOR GRAND NATIONAL MEETING £1200 LOWER CLASSIC EVENT NOT ALTERED

CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. The committe of the Christchurch Jockey Club, at its monthly meeting to-day, decided upon reductions in stakes and alterations in conditions for the Grand National meeting. A general reduction was made, the only exceptions being the Grand National Stqeplechase, which remains at last year's fig.ure, £1000, and the Hunt Cup Steeplechase on the second day, which has been raised from £150 to £160. The total reduction amounts to £1200, and the total amount to he distributed will be £5800. The Hunters' Hurdles, hitherto the opening event of the meeting has been changed to an open flat race cf £160, 6 furlongs. The. Winter- Cup Stakes has been reduced fr.om £500 to £400, the Beaufort Steeplechase from £350 to £300, the Grand. National Hurdles from £750 to £600, and the Lincoln Steeplechase from, £350 to £300. Tlie ^committjbe decided to make no alterations at present for future .classic events, but to reserve the right ito r.educe .the. stakes :not rqore. than 25 per cent. prior to the date of the first forfeit.
