-By Telegraph — Copyright).
Rec. May 2, 7.50 p.m. PARIS, Monday. The first 139 results in the French general elections show that the parties supporting M. Tardieu, have suffered a nett loss of two seats. A second ballot is necessary for 198 seats. The voting showed a marked swing to the left. The Prime Minister, M. Tardieu and M. Herriot have been re-elected by large majorities. Others re-elected include the Ministers of Justice and Commerce (M.M. Reynaud and Rollin), the exPremier (M. Painleve), the Minister of Finance (M. Flandin), the Social^, ist leader (M. Blum), the Right leader (M. Marin) and the Socialist, M. Barthelmy who surprisingly defeated the Communist Party's deputy who has represented Saint Denis since since 1920. ' M. Lorin, deputy for Bordeaux, while awaiting the result, collapsed and died. The election was quiet. The only exciting incident was at the Ivry town hall, where the staff were all Communists. A group of Nationalists climbed to the roof and hoisted the Tricolour. A sharp fight followed and the police arrested 12' Communist clerks and porters.
