CYCLE BANDIT

AUSTRALIA'S LATEST CRIMINAL TYPE. SYDNEY, Sunday. Last night produced the latest type of criminal — the cycling bandit. After menacing a ntan at Killara with an automatic pistol, he rode away on his cycle. By a coincidence, he made a subsequent attempt to burgle a house just as his first victim was using the telephone there to report the hold-up. John McEnroe, of Scott Street, Waverley, waS his victim. He was in the shadows of Arnoldstreet, Killara, when ordered to put up his hands. Under the threat of the gun McEnroe was robbed of £3 ls and then the cycling bandit rode away. McEnroe hurried to the home of Dr. Collins, whom he had intended visiting earlier, and from there telephoned to Pymble police. While he was telephoning Dr. Collins heard stealthy steps on the verandah, and surprised a man crouched outside one of the windows. Dr. Collins and McEnroe chased him, but he escaped on a bicycle. There seems no doubt it was the same man.
