WELL ATTENDED MEETING DURING WEEK END VARIOUS RESOLUTIONS * Ovjr 100 relief workers attended a meeting held during the week-end, when various matters in regard to the unemployment relief administration n the distriet were. discussed. Messrs C. II. Chapman (Wellington N.) and F. Jones (Dunedin South) visiting Labour Members of Parliament, were present and were extended a welcome. It was decided to make representations to the Borough Council and the Tourist Department in an endeavour to have relief wages paid on Saturdays instead of on Mondays as at present. It was pointed out that the County Council was at present paying on Saturday and it was suggested that the other two bodies might fall into line. The recent amendments to the relief sclumes announced by the Minister in Charge of Unemployment (the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates) were discussed and it was decided to ask the local relief committee to follow the scheme without the introduction of any local conditions. Ilt was also decided to suggest to the committee that the men should be allowed to work the necessary number of hours consecutively, and be given the balance of the month to themselves so that they might have some opportunity of seeking outside employment. It was decided that as a result of the antagonistic attitude adopted toward the relief workers by the N.Z. Herald, thatpaper be declared "ulack and boycotted by all members of the Relief Workers Association. At the invitaton of the Mamaku relief workers, Messrs R. Carnachan and H. Daniels were authorised to deliver an address at iviamaku on Thursday, when various matters m connection with the relief administration will be dealt with.
