ALL FOUR DEFENDANTS CONVICTED BY JURY MOTION FOR NEW TRIAL

Rec. May 1, 5.0 p.m. HONONLULU, Saturday. . The four defend.ants in the Joseph Kahahawai lynching case, were convieted of manslaughter, with a plea for leniency, The maximum penalty for manslaughter is lo years imprisonment. Those convicted are: Lieutenant Massie, Mrs Granville Fortescue and E. j. Lord and Albert Jones. They vyill be sentenced on May 6. Mrs Massie wept on her husband's shoulder as, the Verdict was announced. Mrs Fortescue took it calmly, but was visibly shaken, having been confident of acquittal. Lord passed Jones a piece of currency, evidently paying a bet on the verdict. The defendants were remanded to the custody of the Navy. The defence gave notice of motion for a new trial, aiid announced that they will appeal if that is denied. Many residents rushed .up and shook hands with the defendants, expressing sympathy. One prominent woman civic leader kissed all the defendants warmly.
