ARAWA TRIBE
PRESENTATION MADE TO MR GEORGE NELSON During the course of the meeting of the Arawa Trust Board last week, a presentation on behalf of the board and the Arawa Tribe was made to Mr. George Nelson who is relinquishng his position as postmaster at Rotorua to proceed to Blenheim as chief postmaster. Durng the period he has been stationed in Rotorua, Mr. Nelson has been in close contact with the native community in connection with unemployment and other matter s pertainng to the tribe. The presentation was made by Mr. Hemana Pohika, who in asking Mr. Nelson to accept a carved Maori stick, together with a travelling rug for Mrs Nelson, expressed the sincere regret of the Arawa tribe at his impending departure, Their regret was only tempered hy the knowledge that Mr. Nelson was leaving them on promotion, and they hoped that when his next move came, it would be back across the straits. Throughout his stay in Rotorua, Mr. Nelson had been of the greatest. assistance to members of the native community. Mr. Nelson, in reply, stated that he was deeply touched at the honour which had beeli done him. He had always entertained the most friendly feeling toward the Maori race, and anything which he had been able to do had been a pleasure to him. Both Mrs Nelson and himself had spent a very happy time in Rotorua and he hoped that when he had earned nis rest, they would be able to return here once again.
