UNEMPLOYMENT TAX
FURTHER IN ST ALMENTS DUE NEXT MONTH DECLARATIONS OF 1INCOME The unemployment levy and the emei'gency tax on income other than salary or wages hitherto been regarded as two separate methods of taxation, but'in fact they ax*e actually two factors in the one system of taxation. In order to make the tax quite effective amending legislation provides for the payment of levy1 and emergency tax at the same time. Probably a large number of those who are liable for payment of the levy will not be liable for the tax, hut it is essential in all cases that a declaration of income for the year ended March 31, 1932, shall be made when paying the levy. The next instalment of these taxes falls due on May 1, and if it is desired to pay the levy for a year in advance it is suggested that the tax should also be paid for a year. A number of people who should have furnished declarations of income last November have not yet done so, and thus have made more difficult the task of the officials who are administering the Act. Declaration forms are obtainable at all money order offices. An important point to remember is that it is optional whether the declaration of income is made at a post office or to the Income Tax Commissioner; but if a return of income has been made to the latter official it is essential that a declaration that this has been done shall be made at the post office. It is not necessary to make two declarations of income.
