Popnlar Fishing Water The Ohau "Channel is always a popular fishing ground during the last two months of the season, and over the week-end it was unquestionably the most fished water in the district. On Sunday evening, there were no fewer than four launches and six row-hoats ' anchored near the Rotoiti outlet, while six or . seven anglers-wel-e "'wading in the' shallows. Alto- ' gether over 20 rods ' were operating over this stretch of Water while other anglers were at the Rotorua end and along the channel itself. Some excellent fish were taken during Saturday and 'Sunday and at least one Rotorua angler took a limit bag. Fishing the channel during the week, Mr. C. Bowman of Hawera took 10 good fish for a day's outing. Overseas Anglers Pleased. According to Mr. L. Bigg-Wither, an overseas angler who has just returned to Rotorua after a three weeks' fishing expedition to Taupo, the Tongariro, .during the past few weeks has. been yielding .some excellent hags. 'fc: Bigg-Wither is on his first .visit' to New .Eealand and is delight'ed With the fishing. During his three weeks to Tongariro, he secured some very fine bags, his fish averaging I a little over five pounds all round. Mr. Bigg-Wither stated that the fish generally were in splendid condition in the Tongariro, and that other overseas anglers who were fishing the stream were extremely pleased with the sport obtairied. Coming Hnnting Season A certain aniount of encouragement has been given the officials of the Rotorua Hunt Association by the sight of a number of local riders exercising their hunters in anticipation of the early opening of the 1932 hunting season. The annual meeting - of the association will he held on Friday evening next when it is hoped that here will be a large attendance. The sport has beconie inereasingly popular during the past year or two, and the membership of the association has grown steadily. A new move is at present on foot to establish a hunt club and district, incorporating the Rotorua and Bay of Plenty areas. It is considered that a wide field of opportunity exists for the establishment of such a club. Progress at Horohoro. Considera.hle progress is being made with the Maori land settlement scheme at Horohoro. The land has been divided among selected natives in hlocks of from 90 to 120 acres and already each occupier is established in a house. Most of the area is at present down in turnips, though some of the back farms under the mountain ! are in grass. These will be stocked during the coming spring, but the others will probably not be permanently stocked until the following year. Fourteen iPointer Taken. One of the best of the early heads taken this season, was secured by two Rotorua deerstalkers, Messrs. E Dodson and S. Young, during the week-end. The head, an excellently balanced fourteen pointer, was taken in the bush country on the shores of Lake Okataina. Invitatiom Recalled Despite the fact that an invitation was extended to Messrs. E. Earle Vaile and H. P. Ford to be present at a meeting of Rotorua unemployed workers over the week-end in order to explain vainous points in connection with the Mayor's (Mr. T. Jackson), co-operative land settlement scheme, it was decided, by a vote of the workers before the meeting, that they did not desire Messrs. Vaile and Ford to attend. The invitation was extended on Friday night by representatives of the unemployed who attended a meeting in connection with the scheme. Rotorua-Whakatane Road The main Rotorua-Whakatane Road from the Rotoma gorge past Te Teko, requires some attention from the grader. The road in the Rotorua county to the gorge is in good order, and the surface through the gorge itself is als£ good, but on the flat for about ten miles on either side of Te Teko, the surface is very badly corrugated. Grading before the wet weather sets in would restore the road surface, but if it is allowed to go further without attention, it will require considerably more work to put it back into shape.
