HOSPITAL RELIEF

ROTORUA RECEIVING FAIR PROPORTION OF ASSISTANCE. The opinion that the Rotorua district was reeeiving a fair measure of charitable aid assistance from the ' Waikato Hospital Board, was expressed by the Rotorua Borough Council's representative on the board (Cr. G. Urquhart) at Wednesday evening's meeting of the council. The matter was raised by Cr. A. Smith, who expressed a doubt as to whether Rotorua was reeeiving a fair return for its hospital rate contribution to the board'.s funds. Cr. Urquhart said that he could not at that stage 'give definite figures, but in his opinion the board was giving a fair measure of relief. Last year the board had redueed its levy by 20 per cent. and that reduction had been passed on to Rotorua. This year, however, owing to inereased demands, it might be neeessary for the board to increase the levy 10 per cent, which would still leave a 10 per cent. reduction on the previous rate. Speaking from his own knowledge, he knew that all charitable aid applieations from Rotorua had been gralited without any cheese-paring. He would be pleased to supply definite figures as soon as he could obtain them.
