FIRST SITTING IN ROTORUA TO COMMERCE MAY 17 TOUR OF NORTH ISLAbfD

WELLINGTON, Thursday. The board set up under the Transport Lieensing Act, 1931, to hfear ap- . peals from the Central Lieensing authority aixd from the district lieensing authorities xxnder the Act, will commence its first sitting at New Plymouth on May 3. The fixtures after May 20, are tentative and subject to revision. There are ten district authorities, six in the North Island and four in the South isl'ajxd, as well as metropolitan authorities in 'the four centres. The central authority deals with all services which run into two or xhore districts and the four metropolitan and 10 local district authorities deal with services running within their own districts. . » From all these authorities, 15 in all, an appeal lies to the Transport Board, which consists of Mr. Justice Frazer (chairman), Mr. Lisle Alderton, of Auckland, and Mr. Thomas Jordan, of Masterton. ; * -s£3«r About 60 appeals have been lodged with the Commissioner of Transport to date and the Board has nxade the following fixtures. May 3, New Plymouth; May 5, Wanganui; May 9 Wellington; May 12, Napier; May,, 17, Rotorua; May 20, Auckland; May '24, Hamilton; May 26, Wellington (for Nelson and Marlborough cases) ; May 28, Christchurch aixd June 2, Dunedin. The dates after May 20 are subject to revision and depend upon whether the Board is able to deal with the appeals to be heard up to that date. Mr. J. A. Gilmour has been appointed secretary to the Transport Appeal Board.
