CAR STRIKES POLE

(Press Assn.-

IMPACT THROWS DISTRICT INTO DARKNESS \ TWO MEN CRITICALLY INJURED

-By Telegraph — Copyright.) !

NEW PLYMOUTH, last night. Archibald W. Rawles and F. Loeke, both of Waitara, sustained serious head injuries to-night when Ra»wles' car left the road and erashed into an electric light pole at New Plymouth. The force of the impact split the pole half-way up and flung the district into darkness. The car left the road after crossing the Waiwakaiho bridge, missed one pole and struck the next. It then jumped toward the road, landed on its nose, somersaulted and slewed round. At the hospital it was reported that both men had head injuries and that their condition was fairly critical.
