RESIDENTS TO BE ASKED TO CONTRIBUTE TO TARSEALING COST. j MR. A. L. WILSON'S OFFER. j At a recent meeting of tbe Rotorua l Borough Council, an offer was re- | ceived from Mr. A. Liston Wilson to contribute the sum of £30 toward the j cost of bitumenising Whakaus Street, if the council would put that work m ; hand. It was accordingly decided to j ascertain the cost and decide whether ■ the work could be carried out. At Wednesday night's meeting of j the eouncil, however, the works com- j mittee reported that the cost of car- i rying out the work would be £140, which the Mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) i remarked was £60 more than he had ! expected. On the recomm'sndation of the com- \ mittee, it was accordingly decided that other residents of this street \ should he written to in order to as- j certain whether they would be pre- j pared to supplement Mr. Wilson's contribution by making up tbe bal- \ ance of half the cost. The committee i also reported having instructed tbe ; engineer to investigate and report on \ the possibility of treating Whakaue Street hy a similar method to that ; used on the main highway near Mourea, with a view to using local metal fines.
