The Government meteorologist Issued the following weather report and forecast last night: — General Situation: The recent anticyclone is now passing away and a rather deep depression of the westerly type is advancing toward New Zealand, its front having reached the South Island. • Forecast: Winds moderate to strong northerlies, reaching gale force in places in and south of Cook Strait, but a change to southerly -setting in during to-morrow in the far South; later extending northward, Weather: Cloudy and unsettled in districts with a westerly aspect ITnd in the far South, with rain developipg elsewhere f^iir at first, but with increasing cioud and later conditions be^corning more unsettled. Following are the barometer, maximum and mrnimum thermometer am'd rainfall readiogs.ce'conded at the GovernhlsUJf Observation Station by the Rotorua Tourist Department, for the 34 hours ended at 9.30 a.m. yesterday: — Barometer 30.161ins.
