mr. lyons' views RELIEF DEPENDS ON RESULT OF INTERNATIONAL * ' EFFORTS '> - LANG PLAN DEPRECATED

-By Telegranh— Copyright).

Rec. April 17, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Saturday. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, has sent a statement to the London Press deprecating Mr. Lang's suggestion to . withhold overseas interest in order to meet the economic and financial difficulties. ' He points out that the prospects of a general reduction in interest on external debts depended on the action taken upon an International basis for the relief of debtdr countries. He sincerely hopes that the war debts question will be settled at the International Conference to be held in London in June. He points out that the meausre of relief so obtained, however, would depend upon how far Australia is able to strengthen her credit, expressing the opinion that Mr. Lang's attitude would certainly not enhance the Commonwealth's prospect of relief. The Premier, Mr. J. T. Lang, has retux-ned to Sydney from the Premiers' Conference at Melbourne. It is' stated that he does not intend to return to Melbourne.
