MAT-WOMEN
WRESTLING, LATEST FRENCH SPORT FOR THE LADIES. PARIS. The latest attractions to become popular in Montmartre are wrestling championships for girls on the dancing floor. The winner is rewarded with a purse of many francs, and the bouts are fiercely contested. They have proved a great attraction to French people and other Europeans, but English and American visitors are inelined to he disgusted. Eight good-looking girls usually take part in the championships. They represent various hationalities, there being one English and one American girl. A male physical culture instructor referees the bouts. Scratching, biting, and pulling the hair are counted as a fall against the offender. The chef of Le Bal Tabarin declares that the excitement of the girls wrestling whets the appetite of visitors so much that they have been eating twice as much. The wrestling appeals to women even more than men. The orchestra plays wild music throughout the performance.
