WOOL SALE
PRICES AT FINAL WANGANUI FIXTURE DEPRESSED BY PASSINGS VERY LITTLE COMPETITION WANGANUI, Wednesday. The final wool sale of the 1931-32 series at Wanganui to-day revealed prices on a par with the Wellington offering. There was a great number i of moderate and inferior clips in the whole catalogue of approximately 16,000 hales. As a result, the price range was below what should be ex- , pected for a clean offering, Germany, which is invariably a buy- j er at the Wanganui sale, was conspieu ously absent. In fact, .there was little or no bidding from Continental mills, only an oecasional French buyer fbr piece and • lambs. Bradford, as usual on restrieted bidding, was competing with Japan. It
is evident that the latter country is a keen competitor for the Dojninion's wool of almost every class. Much of the wool offered had been held over from the previous sale, and in cases where vendors were able to , accommodate their finances, the clips were passed. Wool showing quality was keenly comjpeted for, but .the "fast accumulation of cross-breds, particularly of tbe coarser quality, is having a very detrimental affect on , the demand of this typ.e. Present day j fashions apparently dictate the de- | mand for finer grades, and hy refus- ; ing to meet the market ,the growers are "queering their own pitch." The Wanganui clip was composed in the main of wool of coarse kinds and in common with other Dominion saies, suffered becau'se the, ■ finer wool was not offered.
