WELLINGTON, Thursday. In the House of Representatives today, Mr. W. E. Parry (Labour, Auckland Central), asked the Minister of Justice, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, whether he had read an account of an unemployed demonstration in Auckland yesterday and whether, in view of the peaeeful nature of the procession indicated by the message, he did not think the police had used their batpns hastily. The Minister was further asked whether he would give instrqctions to the head of the Police Force regarding the discriminate use of force on any such occasions. Mr. Cobbe replied that there was no reason whatever to think that the police had used their batons hastily. Strict instructions were given to the police to use (heir batons only in cases of absolute necessity and he thought it was generally admitted that the police had exercised the greatest patience in taking such action.
