Contact With Power Wire The engineer of the Tararua Power Board reported the other day thht ah accident, which might have had a serious ending, oecurred at the new Pahiatua bridge site. The donkeyengine and boiler were being shifted and the smoke stack came in contact with the 3,300 volt electrical wires, the result being that school children, who were paddling in the river lower down, received a shock. Poor Retiirns From Tomatoes Owing to poor returns several market gardeners in the Hutt Valley are leaving tomatoes on the vines rather than incur the expense of sending them to the markets in Wellington. Only a little time ago cabbages were a glut on the market, and large quantities were dug into the ground as manure. Growers in the* Valley say that they are suffering from the competition of produce grown in the prison grounds at Trentham. Freights, they state, are being sent in from the prison almost daily.
