Duck Hunting • A new form of sport in the nature of duck hunting in Clive" Square, Napier, was introduced on a recent morning when one of these species of birds escaped from a bag in which it was being conveyed from the mart by a - small boy, and proceeded to head a procession around the Square. ' All manner of persons joined in the effort to capture the hird, which, however, • evaded her pursuers for quite ten minutes. Tame Deer , Some time ago Mr. E. J. Watson, of Happy Valley, Methven, caught a young deer on Mount Alford." He carried this ahout five miles to his car and took it home. This is not a case of middlemen's profits, but of gross usury, the finished article costing some 60 times the price of the raw material. Deserted Mascot The mascot of the men who used to woi'lt in the bull-ring and glory hole at the Arapuni falls, in the form of a black cat, presents a forlorn spectacle these days. The animal, which used to be taken down into the bottom of the falls by the men, now makes up to visitors as if to seek relief from the solitude and lack of company.

Full Of Ideas A speaker at a recent meeting held in Raetihi after resuming his seat, rose on several occasions and added to his remarks. A member of the audience said: "You're a long time finishing." For a feW days much money was spent in amusements and in the hotels, but the Sydney Royal Show suffered 'in consequence.
