WELLINGTON, las'f night. The National Expenditure Adjtlbtment Bill, which was read the first time to-night, is po't to dpjly 1 6 the Governor-General or tb hny . person employed by the Government ot any other authority fpr a speeific limited term pursuant to a Cbntract made out of New Zealand. Ministers of the Crown are to siiffer a fifteen per cent. reduction, the I Speaker of the House of Representatives, 125 per cent. the Speaker of the Legislative Couneil and the Chair, man of Committees of the Couhcil dnd tbe House, 10 per cent and all members of Parliament 10 per cent.. _ Salary reductipns in the Civil Service are to he made as follows: . (a): Where pate of salary -as at March 31 ,1932 did iidt exceed £225 per anrium or its equivalent; five per Cent. (b) Where the rate of salary exeeeded £225 or its equivalent, but did not exceed £720,. 10 per cent. (e) Where the rate exceeds £720 of its equivalent, the rate of reduction [ shall be 125 per cent. In cases where emoluments .received are, in the opinion of the Minister of Finance, not calculable at an annual rate, the reduction is to be 10 per cent. Overtime payments hre also tb be redueed by 10 per cet. Grants to educatioh b'oarils, secondary school hoards, imiversity colleges and other similap institiitibns are tb be redueed by the ampunt of the reduction made in the salaries payahle by such governing authprities: Gfaftts or subsidi'es payable put of the Consolidated Fund to local authorities, hos pitals and eharitable aid boards and fife bohrds will be redueed as from April 1 by 10 ner Cent.
Co'ntributors to the superanuuation funds are to be permitted tb pay. into the funds on the same basis as if their salary had not been redueed and on retirement will be entitled to receive the same amount as that to which they would have been entitled if their salaries had not been rediiced. Authority is also given for payment into tbe funds on a basis Higher tha'n the salary being received at the date of the ctit and retiring allowance will he ealeulated aceordingly. Iri other cases the amount of the redueed contributions is to be held by the Superannuation Board for the eredit pf the contributor arid paid to him ori his retirement in addition to his retiring allowarice. The rights of Magistrates and others in respect of contributibris arid retiring allowances are similarly preserved.
