WHALING TO RECOMMENCE

Notwithstanding the fact that there is at present an enormous over-supply of whale oil in the world, it is understood that the Norwegian Fleet which for several seasons has been operating in Ross Sea, will r_sume activities towards the end of this year. At the base in Prices Bay, Paterson Inlet, alone, thirty men, all Norwegians, are busily engaged repairing the larger fleet of chasers. It is interesting to note that a one-time well known trader to Bluff, the barque "Othello" — one of a numerous fleet of vessels owned by the late W. S. Waterson, of Invercargill — is now utilised as a wharf. Sunk on a concrete base she provides deep water berthage for the fleet when taking in supplies.
