EVENING JACKETS
After much controversy, the short ja.cket has retairied its place in the winter mode, and will be just aS pbjmlar this year as it was in 1931, especially for bridge and for indoor wear, while the longer velvet or brocade wrap, which at one lime threatened to supersede it, will appear merely as an outdoor covering. The short jacket of fuf Will be worn both in the daytime and in the evening, white fur being especially fashionabie for the latter use. To be fashionable, the brief evening jacket must strike an unusual note, either by its brevity, its wide collar, or its novel sleeves. All kirids of treatments will be used to emphasise sleeves, which will be puffed at ihe shoulder, oi* the elbow, or will have deep, flaring cuffs. Many of the packets will be merely d;eep capes with sleeves, the point of the cape coming only to the waist at the back. "White Bagheera velvet — a riew material this winter — will be second favourite to white fur, while coloured velvets will also ;be very popular. Beaded jackets, arid coatees covered with pailettes or sequins, to give a glittering effect to the ensemble; will ■ be other favourites of the mode.
