The fields have fined down a bit for the coricluding day to-day of the Avondale Jockey Club's autumn fixture, but the winners will not be easy to find. First day's form looks the best to follow. The going will still be hard and fast unleSs rain falls. Thefe are ten left in the Hobsonville Highweight, and although Standfast failed on Saturday it must be said that he was ridden a peculiar race. High Pitch is a possibility on | Saturday's running, and Royal Survey will find Tarporley out of the way this time. .Of the others Dominican reads best. This quartette appeal most with Royal Survey and Dominican the most likely. For a winner, Ruling King seems to be handsomely treated in the Dominion Handicap and he should again account f.or Golden Spahi and Grand Re view. Night Warrior ought to be a much better horse this time, and despite the favourable treatment meted out to Ruling King, Night' Warrior — who, by-the way is.a brother to Te Monanui — may account for him, while Transaction is another that should go close. Mahkill, Moonfleet, Roxy, Reviver and Echo Song all have chances, but one comes back to Gray's mount, Night Warrior, with Transaction, Ruling King and Golden Spahi as next best. Greek Gold met with a lot of trouble in his race on Saturday, but his mate, Holly Lh, came to the rescue. This bracket will again be at a short price in the Nursery Handicap. Sea Ruler certainly looks the next best, and those mentioned will monopolise the attention of investors. Roirian Mascot and Hauwiri represent the surprise element.
Risk with Puriri Park. Judged on his recent fine showings, the handicapper appears to have taken a risk with Puriri Park in the Waitakere Handicap, and he should be a pronounced favourite — and a pronounced success! Yandyke impressed when he beat Fiji, and Eastertime's sprint forjn indicates that he is in rare form. Sunny Sky is a good prospect, for she has not run a bad race in Auckland to date. Persham, Whakapara, Grand Spirit and Karangapai are lightweight possibilities. Howev.er, Puriri Park is the final selection over Sunny Sky, Eastertime and Vandyke. A dozen figure in the principal race, the Autumn Handicap. Great Star, after making the pace a cracker on Saturday, only succumbed in the last bit to a fine three-year-old, - so a win for the versatile Riccarton galloper is quite within the realms of possibility. Taneriri will find the going a bit hard unless it rains, when he will be in his element. Awaken was fourth again on Saturday, and King's Archer was off the course most of the way in the same race. Speedmint is a nice filly, and if she races up to her best this will find her right in the forefront. This quintette should be the most prominent, with Autumn Sun the best of the others. On a wet track Taneriri would be the hardest to beat, but under the conditions ruling Speedmint, Grsat Star and Awaken are the most likely, with Autumn Sun as the best outside prospect.
Another Fine Field. Another fine field will contest the Mt. Eden Handicap, with Lady Quex still possessing a good chance even under her big weight, for she was only touched off on Saturday by a classy colt. Great Star will be fancied if kept for this, and Huntingdon can be depended upon for another fine effort, especially as those who pressed him so close the first day will be absent. Silvermine was running on strongly on Saturday, and Hi-gh Comedy's rider appeared to make his one big effoiff much too soon. Orapai raced well at Paeroa, and Awarere and Hampton Park should be best of the remainder. Huntingdon ought to be the hardest proposition, with High Comedy, Silvermine and Orapai likely dangerous candidates. Teels is diificult to handle, otherwise she might have won on Saturday; her turn cannot be far off now. Inuendo impressed by his finishing run into fourth place in the Highweight the first day, and Good Idea is now racirig solidly. These horses are fancied most, with Arch Ruler probably the pick of the remainder. The final event is the Morningside Handicap. Sunny Sky may take on the earlier event in which she is engaged, but if reserved for this would be supported to win. In her psobable absence the way will be made much easier for Imperial Prince, Autumn Sun arid Hit the Deck. TE KUITI DOUBLE. One of the last fixtures on the country circuit for the season is that at Te Kuiti on Saturday arid Monday, for which excellerit acceptarices have been received for the operiing day's programme. Nine remain in the Te Kuiti Cup, Pegaway heading the list with 9.4, not a prohibitive impost in view of what he is liable to do. Habit is an , interesting southern visitor, but she has yet to show her best 'form over a mile and a quarter, although she won over this distance in the early spring. Kirig's Archer is a good handicapper when caught right, and the field next Saturday is well within his compass. His form at Avondale last Saturday can be overlooked. This is the time of the year to be with the three-year-olds. Speedmint is a really smart filly, and her Oaks victory indicates that she is one of the big possibilities for the Te Kuiti Cup, if well ridden. Autumn Sun has not run a bad race in Auckland this autumn, and this race is the sort for him to show1 up. Cruachan ought never to have been beaten by Imperial Prince at Ellerslie, so that indicates that he is not without a firstJ^J^^ljMKg^^Eagei^Ros^Wentwell
wherever the latter may be. Grand Talk completes an interesting Cup field, in which King's Archer, Speedmint, Pegaway and Limeen impress most at present. Huntingdon's success last Saturday at Avondale, where he was a bit unlucky not to obtain 'a clear-eut decision over Eastertime, points to him as the logical favourite for the Te Kuiti sprint, the Stewards' Handicap. He is now up to nine stone, but he is on the upgrade. Hampton Park displayed a torrent of speed in the Avondale sprint, and finally finished just behind the placed horses, form which says something for his Te Kuiti prospects. Paganelli won at Wairarapa recently and he cannot be overlooked now that he is back in the sprinting once more. Tea Chat is very fast indeed, but Ganpat finished last at Avondale. Persham will find the track to his liking. A quartette that will be in favour for the Stewards' Handicap are Huntingdon, Paganelli, Hampton Park and Tea Chat. Of course, there is always the prospect of to-day's running at the Avondale meeting upsetting calculations some what.
