ATTACK IN HOTEL
SUDDEN BRAWL WITH SPIKES AND IRON BARS. SYDNEY, Sunday. Spikes and iron bars • were wielded with such good effect in a sudden brawl in a Newtown hotel that two men are in hospital in a serious condition. No warning of their intention was given by 14 men who drove up in a lorry to the front of the hotel, which is in Albermarle Street, and rushed into the building, armed with spikes and iron bars. The men set on three others who were/ in the bar, and within a few seconds a number were on the floor. one man being unconscious. While on the floor the man, who later gave the name of Frederick Franklin, 26, of Australia Street, Newtown, was kicked about the face and had his nose broken. An onlooker, Frederick Davies, 19, of Balfour Street, city, received a blow which knocked him senseless. The brawl lasted only a few minutes, and when police arrived the attackers had disappeared. Franklin and Davies were taken by Newtown-Marrickville Ambulance to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
