WELLINGTON, Thursday. The president of the Alliance of Labour, Mr. A. Cook, who is also secretijry of the New Zealapd "Vy.ork.ers' Uniop, presided at fhe .preliminayy m.eefiug of a conference representi'ng practically every worhers' qrgariIsaT ^tion in the Dominion, inpluding public service qrganis'atipps, for tfje purT pose of deciding the policy of ' tlie in reference to "amendmpnts to t]ie Industrial Gonciliatiop and Arbjtrqtion Act and wage cuts generaily. It is stated that there is a pos'slbilit'y of the conference considering a proposal that a one-day strike should be declared tbiroughout the countr-y as a protest. • Another suggestion is that there should be a geheral strike -embracing the workers in every branch of industry. The delegates are reticent as to the attitude they will adopt.
