Rotoehu Becoming Popular Lake Rotoehu, at one time one of the lesser lcnown of the Rotorua district lakes, is becoming increasingly popular with camping parties, and over Easter a number of the beautiful canip sites in the bush around the lake shores have heen occupied. The hot soda pool adjacent to the lake at Rotoma is also proving increasingly popular, and during the last few weeks no fewer than five hathers have been taking a regular course of baths for curative purposes.

Pastures Improve. The recent rains have had a most beneficial elfect upon pastures in the Rotoiti, Rotoma and Manawahe districts, reports our Rotoehu' correspondent, and farmers in the district now appear to be assured of a good growth of winter feed. Settlers in the Manawahe area have now completed sowing the extensive areas hurned during the recent bush fires which swept the district, and the young grass, which is just making its appearance, is looking well. Waikite Geyser Active Throughout yesterday the once famous Waikite Geyser at Whakarewarewa, was playing regularly every 15 minutes, many of the shots l-ising to fully 50 feet and providing a magnificent spectacle seen against the background of the scrub-covered hill behind the geyser. Waikite has been practically quiescent for the past six months or more, hut on Wednesday, the earetaker at Whaka noticed signs of renewed activity, the geyser sending up several shots during the day. Yesterday, however, the geyser was constantly active and the earetaker stated that it showed every sign of continuing to play daily-for a while. Puarenga Geyser was also active yesterday, sending up several good shots, hut Pohutu showed no signs of coming activity.

Path Quite Secure Mr. C. J. Green, an Auckland visitor, who was severely scalded at Whakarewarewa on Tuesday as the result of slipping into a boiling pool off the track leading to the. trig station, is making a very satisfactory recovery. It was incorrectly stated in an Auckland newspaper that the aceident oceurred in the vicinity of the Pua Pua, the boiling pool in which the ' recent tragie death of Miss Runci- ! man oceurred, and that it was caused j by the breaking away of the main pathway to the trig station. Mr. Green at the time of the accident was 150 yards from Pua Pua and ahout 60 feet off the path, which at no point has given way.

Extermination of Deer The opinion that the deer herds in the Rotorua district will be practic- i ally exterminated in another two years, if the present open season is maintained, was expressed yesterday hy a well-known local sportsman when discussing shooting prospects gener- j ally. This gentleman stated that al- ; ready the herds had been depleted to | a very marked degree and in places [ where, a year and two ago, there were j herds of 30 and 40, there were now j only a few scattered heads, or none j at all. He considered that while the j authorities might he achieving their t purpose in the extermination of the j herds, if this was allowed to proceed j to extremes, Rotorua wQuld lose one j of its most outstanding sporting at- j tractions. Tiles For Blue Bath All the tiles for carrying out the tiling of the main pool at the Blue Baths have now arrived and tenders will shortly be called for the work. Good progress has heen made with the preparation of the larger bath, and if the popularity of the smaller juvenile pool may be taken as any indication, it should receive a very large measure of public support when completed.

Excellent Condition The excellent condition of pastures in the district and particularly in the : Bay of Plenty area around Whakatane., was commented upon by ihe Director-General of Agriculture (Hr. ■ C.
