magnificent specimen found floating in . tongariro UNUSUALLY FINE CONDITION The largest trout which h"as been taken in this district or any other part of New Zealand for a number of years was forwarded to the Conservator of Fish and Garhe (Mr. A. Kean), from Tokanu yesterday. T|s fish which was a magnificent specimen of a female hrown trout "weigb ed 251bs, and measufes 33.5 inchei from nose to tail. Its girth measurement was 22 inches. The fish was secured by a well known district angler, Mr. B. U. Bar low, who found it floating in a smdl pool left in the Tongariro on Saturday after the recent floods. It is not known whether the fish was deai when taken from the water, but although details as to the melhod W wliich it was secured are at presen scanty, it was probably not taken oi rod and line. _ Authority has been given f°r_ mounting of the fish which has beei forwarded to Mr. J. Holmes, taxider mist of Frankton. It will be plncel on exhibition in Rotorua at a lat® date. .
The fish has been submitted by^1 Kean to test for condition by ^ standard method of the Sahnon anf Trout Association of England, knoffi as E. M. Corbett's Condition CalcU lator. Under this system the stan dard "condition factor" for a salmo is expressed by the figure 40 and t ! a trout, from 38 to 40.
