TO-NIGHT'S BOXING
McINNIS AND BROADFOOT to MEET IN BIG 5 ; FIGHT. GOOD CONTEST PROMISED i There h,as been rather a lul\ in boxing matters -in the Dominion of late, and Rotorua is fortunate in securing for to-night what is really the first contest of any consequeiice which has be®^ fog sopie t(me. Both Tommy^McInnis and ' Jim Broadfoot, who will meet at the Sylvana Stad- ' ium to-night, are unquestionably in the first ranks of the professionals at present in the Dominion, and as men with very contrasting styles, provide a particularly inter.esting match. In afidition to the big contest, fiowever, the finals of Saturday night's amateur tourney will be decided as preliminaries, so that, taken all in all, splendid value is offered in -|o-night's entertainment. Tommy Mclnnis has been well knqwn in New Zealand and Australia for some time past, and has defeated soino O.f the best kh.PWl1. pugs in his class. At Home, Mclnnis won the light-heavyWeight championship of Scotland, defeating such redoubtable opponents as Tomipy Connell (welterweight champion of Ir eland) , Walter McLean and George Cairney. After coming to Augfralia and New Zealand, Mclnnis addpd further to his list of successes and defeated such well-known exp, onents as.Ted Mopson and Laehie McDonald. Mclnnis has been resting during. the. l&st season, but has now returned to the game, and has been in ^trepqous training under that energetic Anckland mentor, Vern Hogg. " He shquld tuipr out very fit and is always a clever and attractive man to watch. Broadfoqt is 'of a rather heavier type and packs a very solid punch. He is a more recent co.wer tp. tfie game than Mclnnis, but makes up what he la,cks in experience by fiis very rugged physique and ability tp, absorb punishmept. Tf'he Scptchman's footwork will have to keep him out of the way of Bro.adfoot's right, if he is to hold his own.
Broadfoot hpld both the middleweight anfi light-'heavyweight titles of the Dominion and gave heavyweight champion, Eddie Parker, the fright of his life at their last meeting. Brqadfop.t has also met Ray Nicol, Al-lao Campbell and Lachie McDpnajd, and is regayded as one of the Dominion's fistic hopes. He will be up against a tough proposition in the clever hard-hitting little Scotchman he is ineoting tonight, but Mclnnis will need all his ring-cjjgft to keep the honours even. In o'fder to fufther popularise the final night of its Easter tourney, the Rotorua Gymnastic Club has decided to admit aU ladies accompanied by escorts free to this" evening's big fight. As pn Satnrday night, arrangements have been made for an , ad,pau, ate b.us servipe tp and ^l'om the stadium.
