LOCAL AND GENERAL

Teddy Bear at Majestic Theatre A novel feature of the matinee showing of "A Lady's Morals" at the Majestic Theatre this afternoon will be the exhibition of a live Teddy Bear, and parents should not miss this opportunity of giving their children a chanc'e to see this wonderful little animal. He comes from the Queensland coast, and his meals consist of gum leaves brought from Australia. Pojiularity of Blue Baths An excellent impression of how popular the new Blue Baths will be, with their mixed bathing facilities, when the main pool is eompleted, was afforded yesterday by the large number s of bathers who toolc advantage of the smaller pool. The bath during both the afternoon and the evening was packed almost to.the point of discomfort. The Ward Baths also drcw their quota of bathers, who obviously appreciated the modern facilities now available at the various baths. Croquet Championships In the final of the Rotorua Croquet Club championships held recently, Mrs W. L. Richards defeated Mrs H. C. Worthington in two games by 26-24, and 26-22. Sports Handicapped Keen disappointment was expressed yesterday that the decision of the Tourist Department to make available during the afternoon the playing area's under its control was not favoured with better weather. Intermittent drizzling rain prevented the majority of the sporting enthusiasts from using the facilities available, though a few of the keener ones were to be seen on the rinks and tennis courts toward evening when the weather cleared a little. Sunday Band Concert A concert in aid of the newly formed Rotorua Boys' Band and their new instrument fund, will be given in the Majestic Theatre on Sunday evening at 8.30 by the Rotorua Municipal Ban Tregilgas, assisted by Miss T. Butt and other vocalists. Selections will also be rcndered by the Boys' Band. During the evening the new instruments will be nfficially handed over to the Boys' Band by his Worship the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson. Easter Trafiic. The Easter trafiic is now in full swing and the streets and accomadation houses in the town reflect the large influx of visitors which has marked this popular holiday season. All hotels, private and public are full, and both by road and rail there has been a steady stream of arrivals. The two special trains which arrived from Auckland, one on Thursday evening and the other early yesterday morning were well filled, while the general air of activity which prevades the camping site in Ranolf Street is evidence of the large number of motorists who have made Rotorua their rendezvous for the holidays. Bowling Tourney. The Rotorua Bowling club's Easter progressive pairs tournament will commence to-day and will continue on Monday. The tournament is open to all club members and visitors and post entry may be made. Heavy Fish. There have been comparatively few anglers at Lake Okataina so far this season, but despite this fact, this lake-continues to hold its reputation for yielding probably the heaviest average weight fish in the distriet. Okataina trout are not easy to take, but when taken are nearly always exceptionally heavy fish. Recently a splendid 13 ilb fish was taken by Mr. J. Chambers fishing in the log pool, while two Rotorua Anglers took a bag which averaged over 81bs. Sufficient Excuse. Comings and goings of politicians to and from Government House one day recently, says the Evening Post, gave rise to the rumour that the Prime Minister had tendered his resigAation to his Excellency the Go-vernor-General. The rumour quickly spread, as rumours do, and gained wide credance. Telephonie inquiries failed to get eonfirmation, but quite a number of people "had it on the best authority that it was true." The foundation of the rumour lay in the fact that the Address-in-Reply had been presented to his Excellency.

One Way Out. j "The way out of the farmers' dif- j fieulties does not lie in cheap labour, but in highly-paid, highly-specialised labour," said Mr. L. G. Walker, speaking to the New Zealand Society at Christchurch. "It lTes in larger farms, with the assistance -of the chemist and biologist, and other technical experts to run those larger farms efficiently." Discarded Telegraph Forms. A litter of discarded telegfam forms can be found in any large telegraph office in New Zealand. It is estimated that more than one-seventh of the forms printed are thrown away or converted into scribbling paper by the public. About 6,000,000 telegrams are dispatched in the Dominion annually, but another million forms are need- j ed for the people who cannot write 1 their messages at t'he first attempt. ! "The First Time." "This is the first time dn 23 years," said a defaulting cyclist to Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Christchui-cb Magistrate's Court. "First time in the Court?" asked Mr. Mosley. "Yes, the first time I've been caught," answered the defendant, and the magistrate smiled over the important misunderstanding.
