APPOINTMENT OF LOCAL BOARDS SUGGESTED IN HOUSE EXPENSE NpT JUSTIFIED
WELLINGTON, Wednesday. In the House of Representatives to-day Mr. W. H. Feild (Government, Otaki), asked the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G- W. Forbes, whether, in view of alleged undue pf ofiteering in some of the necessaries of life, and unfair trading witb tbe object oi creating mqnopqlies, and the need for reducing tbe cqsij of liying, the Government would set up local boards or committees to deal with these matters. The price fixation tribunals during the war, said Mr. Feild, did much effective. seryice in this connection. "In view of the neeessity for the utmost ecqnomy in expenditure and also tbe fact that, generally, tbere is keen cbmpfetifcion amongst "■ftraders, it is not cqnsidered advisable that the Government should set ups local hqards throughout the Dominion as suggested by the Honourable member," replied !Mr Forbes. "If the honourable hiember, or others, know of spe'cific instapces of unreaspnahly high prices heing charge^ q,nd lodge complaints with' the Department of Industries and Commer.ee, they will' be carefully investigate^."
