HAWKE CUP TEAM

H. L.

MUSGRAVE,

(To the Editor).

Sir, — Now that the official teanx to represent the Bay of Plenty Minor Association agaixxst South Auckland for the Hawke Cup at Easter has been published, I would like to make a brief reply to some recent cr'ticism of the selectors. In the first place the team published some weeks back was not the official selection and shoxxld never have reached the press. The teaxn published no doubt was the team then xxnder review, and was admitted as such, but the selectors reserved the right to amend same in view of any unforeseen circumstances arising, and not (as correcte.d in your paper) in the event of any player not being available. Secondly it was essential that the selxctors be assured of a player's ability to get away for three days at Easter, and wlxen first approached some of the playex-s could not give this assurance. Consequently the selectors were the only persons in a position to know who was available and wbo was not. As this is the first occasion that a Bay of Plenty cricket team bas had tbe oppox-tunity of playing for ihe coveted Hawke Cup it behoves all lovers of the game to give some eucouragement, and at least express the wish that they will be successful in their ouest. — I am. etc.

President Bay of Pler-ty Minor Cx-icket Assn.
