The Easter period has always been ~a bright lioliday interval in Rotorua, and this year, in spite of the depression and other troubles, there will be no lack of attractions for the influx of visitors which always marks this holiday. ... Special excursion train arrangements have been inade by the Railway . Department from Mareh 22 to 29. A special excursion train from Auckland . will arrive in Rotorua on Thursday evening, March 24, and on the afternoon of the same day a special will « leave Rotorua for Auckland. Cricket interest will be largely focussed away from Rotorua, as the «. Bay of Plenty representatives will be * engaged in their Hawke Cup fixture with Waikato at Hamilton, but at . home a junior Auckland city and subizrban team will meet a Rotorua " eleven. The visiting players will ar~ r've in Rotorua on the Thursday evening. The Rotorua Bowling Club will con- ' duct an Easter progressive pairs tour-. ney on Easter Saturday and Monday. - The tournament will be open to both __ ^visitors and members of the club and will be on the post-entry system. No ^ - definite tennis fixture has been arranged but the Government Gardens - courts are certain to be very popular. There will be speedway thrills at Te Ngae, where a number of well -•'known visiting dirt track riders will *"~be participating. The introduction of speedway racing to Rotorua last La- " bour Day proved very successful and there will be keen interest in this se- . cond meeting on the Te Ngae track. Arrangements are at present being made for the appearance of George Walker and SeoNy McDougall in a profess'onal wrestli.ig bout on the Thursday evening, wh:le on Saturday there will be an amate .ir boxing tournament in which well known amateurs from Auckland snd Hamilton will participate. The tour- *. ney will conclude on East. r Moncmy night with a professional box'ng ccntest between Tommy Broadfoot and Mclnnes. Both of these men are well known in the boxing world and hruTe records which promise an t xcelle lt contest. The tournapaent will be lrdd in the Sylvana gymnasium, which will provide adequate accommodation for what will undoubtedly prove a very ** popular fixture. On Easter Sunday n:ght, the Ro'orua Municipal Band will giv? a co.xcert in the Majestic Theatre, and a most suitable and interesting programme has been arranged.
