Rec. Mar. 16, 10.5 p.m. CANBERRA, -Wednesday. The clash between the Commonwealth Government and the New South Wales Government is rapidly nearing a climax. The Federal Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, in the House of Representatives to-day moved a resolution under . the Financial Agreement Enforcement Act, giving the Commonwealth power to attach £924,082 from the New South Wales revenue. The source from whieh this may be obtained comprises any of tbe following: Income tax, betting and totalisator tax,. motor taxation, enlertainnient taxation, and lottery reeeipts after deducion of prizes. Mr. Lyons told the House of Representatives that sufficient to cover the New South Wales defaulted interest could be attached from the State income tax during the next - eight weeks. He added that if the New South Wales Government maintained its present attitude, it would default to the extent of £4,500,000 of overseas interest by June 30, while default in Australian interest would bring the total to £6,000,000. Mr. Lyons was subjeeted to violent interjections from the Labour Opposition. The resolution was agreed to, and the Senate is now debating it.
