Bov/ling Championships The Rotorua Bowling Club's championship competitions are now near- . ing the final stages and some of the seetions are far enough advaneed to give some indieation as to the probable finalists. In the championship singles the only games reiliaining to be played are Budd v. Butt (Saturday), and A. French v. Williams (Wednesday). In the pairs, Merriman and Richards have to play off in the section C final tie against Hamilton and Fowkes. Seetions A and B are not yet far enough advaneed to foretell their conelusion but when these have reached their final stages. A and B play off and C has a bye. Picked Up in Rotorua On Tuesday evening, the National Broadcasting Company, of Australia, opened its new station at Crystal Springs, S.A. The new station is one of the most powerful in the Commonwealth and was opened by the Premier of South Australia before a large assembly from all parts of the State. The station was picked up in i Rotorua with excellent volume, and | in spite of the fact that there was a good deal of static about, reception was good. The call sign of the new . station is 5CK on 630 kc. Tuesday . night's opening was rebroadcast by 3AR Melbourne. New Sewerage Connections When the new borough sewerage pumping station in King Street is opened on Monday, 30 sewerage connections will be made almost immediately. The preliminary work has already been earried out for these connections and as soon as the pumping station funetions, they will be linked up. Altogether approximately 250 new connections will be made in tbe Kmg Street-Ranolf Street-Peririka Street area. Drainage at WTiaka The borough drainage engineer, Mr. F. J. Lenihan, has made a preparatory survey of the Whakarewarewa j native village in anticipation of a report which will be made regarding the carrying out of a complete sewerage scheme for the pa. The matter, however, will not be advaneed to any appreciable extent until after the end of the present finaneial year when the Council will have had an opportunity of considering the funds available for tbe work.

Wednesday Bowling No championship games were play- ' ed by members of tbe Rotorua Bowling Club yesterday and the time was occupied mainly in friendly matches. Aitken and Merriman in a game against Hall and Witt gave an interesting exhibition of bowls being 19 all on the nineteenth head. _ Merriman added another six to his score on the final heads to win by 25 to 19. Other games were: Jackson, Hasted, Snell and Jones (s) 28, beat Wright, Thomson, Birrill and Webber (s) 13; Farren, Stallard, McDowell, and Cottrell (s) , 17 lost to Kurney, Milner, Brackebush and Fowkes (s), 18; Morton, Dabb, Bates and Millar (s) 24, beat Dabb, Thomas, Lee and Richards (s), 18; Mitchell, Morland and Morgan (s) 17, beat McGitcbie., Hilford and Stonehouse (s), 15. Fo Bowl at Te Puke The Rotorua Bowling Club have ac- ; cepted an invitation from the Te Puke Bowling Club to play a friendly match at Te Puke during tbe com- j ing week-end. Four teams will make the trip, these being skipped by W. Pakes, E. Fowkes, A. V. Merriman and H. Bertram. Funds for Dental Clinio An entertainment will be given in the Lyric Theatre on Wednesday, March 30, in aid of tbe fund being raised for the Rotorua Primary School dental clinie. Items will be given by some of the best of Rotorua s talented artists who will be supported by well known visiting entertainers.

Visitors to Arapuni. The bridge over the headrace just beyond Arapuni dam is being strengthened by concrete being affixed to tbe bottom of tbe bridge piles. There was a partieularly large number of visitors at Arapuni last week-end. No doubt the fact that the remedial measures are almost, completed was the reason for the large numbers who viewed all parts of the works.
