NO PREFERENCE

NON-UNIONISTS TO SHARE jIN BENEFITS OF AWARDS. CANBERRA, Tuesday. Regulations abolishing the preference to unionists rule in the Public Service have been issued hy the Federal Government, and will take effect from Thursday next. These regulations replace those formulated hy the Scullin Government in May, 1930, through the Public Service Board, which laid down that Public Service employees must join a nnion to reeeive the benefits of an award of the Public Service Arhitrator. The new regulations state that all employees, whether unionists or not, will be entitled to the henefit of awards governing the service. Under the Scullin regulations, employees were given two months in which to join an organisation. If at the end of that time they were still Uon-members, they were required to refiind any excess salary payments made to them, and their salaries were adjusted to the appropriate salary rate.
