CORRUPT PRACTICES ALLEGED IN NEW SOUTH WALES CHARGE AGAINST MINISTERS

Rec. Mar. 15, 7 p.m. SYDNEY, Tuesday. In the Legislative Assemhly to-day, Mr. ,B. S. B. Stevensi acting-leader of the Opposition, asked for the appointment of a Royal Commission into "tin" hare dealing. He said he held statutory declaratloris" referring to corrupt hargains and licenses, which implicate certain members of the Ministry and a high Government oificial. Mr. Stevens moved that the Commission should eonsist of a Supre'me Court judge and be impowered to inquire irito thb allegations of co'rruption ebncerning parties indicated during the year 1927, and to the present time; all eircumstances surrounding the issue of licenses and the disposal of shares in grey hound coursing companies. A motiori that the matter be dealt with as one of urgency was defeated 1 by 45 votes to 30 vot'es. A'mo'ng the documents in the.possession of IH- ^tevens, whose speech was h'anded to the Press, Was a letter ' from a firm of chartered acbountants, containing "ari offer of 5,000 shai'es in the Australian Coursing Cluh, Limited, to a certain nian,' "for ,propaganda" ih securing legislative reintroductibri of ti'ri hare racing in New South Wales. ; Another letter contained an offef for advertising space worth £1,006 to a Labour newspaper in exchange for its serviees in support in" t'"n hare racing. Another allegation delt with Judge Swindell's share in the dealing, and also a statement that a certain Minister of the Crown demanded £1,000 in cash, instead of shares before he would act for the benefit of grey hound racing.
