A violent storm, preceded hy vivid flashes of lightning and mighty roars of thunder, struck Katoomba at 1.30 p.m. to-day and lasted for half an hour. The gathering clouds presented a remarkable sight and the great forks of lightning were followed by thunder claps which terrified women and children, and, according to the polee, sent many of them hiding under beds and tables.
